So this is one of the reasons that I’ve stopped going to church on Sundays.
My dear friend has a very good friend who is very well-known in our local Catholic community. She has successfully hidden her alcoholism for many, many years; however, in the past year or so she has had several accidents in her home. She has tripped and stumbled and most recently, she fell down a full flight of steps. She broke her pelvic bone, her clavicle and several ribs. Her entire family has danced around the elephant in the room for years and this last fall has forced all of her family members to face the truth of their mother’s and wife’s alcoholism.
Here comes the crazy part. The woman is laying in a hospital bed in terrible pain and she’s going through alcohol withdrawal. Mr. Catholic husband is too embarrassed to tell the Dr. that his wife is an alcoholic so no one can figure out what is wrong with her. This sanctimonious creep then tells his wife that Jesus pushed her down the stairs to make her stop drinking.
Now, here’s what I want to know. Did Jesus jump out and yell “Boo” and then push her down the steps or did he just press himself flat against the wall and wait until she hit the top step and then push her? Or did he maybe trip her instead of push her?
He goes to church every day and prays for those of us who don’t. Sanctimonious creep.
