Let the Building Begin!

Home Sweet Home

Did I tell you that the township told me husband he can’t have the garage?  Something about building on a slope and property lines and flood plains – I don’t know.  Can you fricken’ believe it?  Now we all know that I didn’t want the damn thing, but after the marriage counselor told me I was a dream wrecker, I eventually acquiesced and told him he could have it..  And now the township is the dream wrecker and I’m just glad they’re the bad guys now!

So, next week we are meeting with the architect again to discuss building a family room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  My house is a Cape Cod and was built in 1954.  The first floor has 5 rooms (bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and den).  All of the rooms are about 14 x 12 (except for the tiny bathroom) and none of them are great for having a houseful of people – we’re always separated into different rooms.

I would love to build a family room either on the side of the house or where my screened-in deck is now – across the back of the house. I want to bring my washer and dryer up from the basement and put it on the first floor and when we get older and can’t go up and down the stairs, I’m thinking we can convert the den into our bedroom.

I have a zillion ideas for this room – I’m thinking I want the room to have a log cabin feel to it.  I figure since he can’t have his garage, this can be a great room for him to relax in.  I’m going to have a large electric fireplace, and the grandfather clock that he has always wanted.  I told him he could have one whole wall filled with bookcases and his model cars.

Both of us will get something that we want.  I can’t wait!

I’m crossing my fingers that the township lets you have your family room!

It sounds great and a win-win for everyone. Hope the Township can see your vision too.

I’m worried because my experience tells me that many people who hold public offices don’t do much to help the people in their neighborhoods. Fingers crossed!

I hope this works out for you. Sounds great!
